Return to: The Historic Lathrop House

The following update appeared in the May 12, 2002 bulletin for St. Joseph Church.

A Message from the Pastor

Long Range Plan on Display
A model of the long range plan for St. Joseph Parish will be on display during Festirama. We are looking at the possibilities 30 or 50 years out with various phases implemented as generations see fit. Phase I is what we are looking to do within the next year. Stop and take a look at the model. There will be a representative from the planning committee there to explain the plan for you. While on this subject, a city organized Blue Ribbon Committee is trying to finalize plans for relocating the Vogt house. We need a firm commitment and signed deal within the next several weeks from them. There has been plenty of time to think this through but very little progress has been made. While we are still hopeful that an acceptable solution can be found, time is running out.

Note:  The information above, highlighted in blue, is incorrect.

Mayor Stough said that "This committee is not charged with negotiating or determining the location of the house".

I am also surprised by Fathers comment, "very little progress has been made", since the members of our Parish and community have worked to raise over $36,000. The Devers family, also parishioners of St. Joseph's, contributed $25,000. The City of Sylvania has appropriated $50,000 and the Sylvania Township Trustees are finalizing their plans for contributing. Also, the Olander Park System has offered to have the Lathrop House moved to Olander Park and TOPS will pay for the restoration.
