The following update appeared in the April 28, 2002 bulletin for St. Joseph Church.

A Message from the Pastor

Parish Planning
Festirama is right around the corner but so are a couple of other major events for St. Joseph’s Parish.

During the Fall of 2002, it is our turn to participate in the much publicized Bishop’s campaign in Diocese of Toledo. Our Parish goal has been established as $1,700,000.00. We will add to that goal as part of enacting the first phase of our long range planning for our Parish future.

The Parish planning committee has completed work with SSOE on a long range plan for the next 30 years or so in the Parish. A model of this plan will be on display during Festirama.  The first phase of the plan would be to construct a facility for pre-school, Kindergarten through grade three, and a second gym on the combined Ravine and 5362 S. Main Street properties. Phase One also includes a kitchen and commons space that could be used for parish functions such as funeral luncheons, etc.

The planning also would reconfigure abandoned rooms in our present school for other needed facilities for parish and school.
The entire plan will be presented to the Parish in the months ahead.
These developments are the culmination of many years of planning, not only internally, but regionally. We have worked with Our Lady of Lourdes, Little Flower, and the three parishes on our westernmost border – the three soon to be consolidated under the leadership of the new Pastor, Fr. Dennis Metzger.
Their consolidation, in effect, produces a new Parish for the continued western growth in the Sylvania area.
I invite and encourage your support of both the Bishop’s Campaign and these long range plans for our Parish. I also invite your prayers for the success of our efforts.
Take a moment during Festirama to study the model on display.
I will keep you informed of details of both campaigns in the weeks ahead.
