Modifying an existing account in Outlook Express
SEV is moving their email servers to new hardware at American Broadband. These changes are required so you can send and receive mail.
- Open Outlook Express
- Choose Tools and then Accounts
- Highlight your SEV mail account (probably mail.sev.org)
- Choose Properties.
- Choose the Servers tab.
- Check that the Incoming mail server is 'mail.sev.org'
- Change the Account Name so it has the form username@sev.org
- Change the Outgoing mail server to 'mail.bex.net'
- Check the box for ‘My server requires authentication' in the ‘Outgoing Mail Server' section at the bottom of the dialog box.
- Click the Settings Button
- Check the tick boxes next to ‘Log on using".
- Fill in the Account Name and Password. These were setup for you by Buckeye and were mailed to you. Buckeye Tech Support can furnish these to you if you are unsure. Although Buckeye set them up, they are probably the same as your SEV email.
- Click ‘OK' to close the window.
- Click 'OK' to close Properties
You should test this change to the outgoing server by sending an email. Sending one to yourself is a good test. If you can send and receive the email, you are finished with the changes.
If this test fails, there is a problem with the Buckeye email account set up for you by Buckeye. Please call Buckeye's Tech Support to resolve this problem. Remember, you are a Buckeye customer and because you are sending mail using Buckeye's network, they will assist you in making this change.
